My Subtle Hero

When I was a high school, we have this “terror” principal as what the students called her. She was so strict that made the students to hate her. Afraid of being scolded, the students will always avoid her presence.
The same as the students, I hated her too. For me she was a “kill joy” person. She was focusing more in the academic side of the school and giving less time in extra-curricular activities in school for she always treasure the time spent in classrooms. One thing also that made me hate her more was when she got angry in our section because she doesn’t like the way we landscaped our area of responsibility and have given us one hour to change it.
But as time goes by, I had seen her true colours.  She was helping those students who have no enough money for their education in our school. She has always this good heart to give help.  Aside from that she was also helping an orphanage where she spends her free time with the children and nuns.
There came a time when her heroic character was tested that amazed me most. It was when our principal was in her way to our school. She doesn’t live in our town and she have to ride in a bus for two hours in going to school. There was a woman who is one of a passenger whose money was stolen and this woman was explaining to the driver that she have no money to pay for the fare. The woman was telling the driver that she have not eaten breakfast because she had no money. Our principal heard this. So  she offer her money  amounting to one thousand pesos to the woman without knowing that she  had no extra money left in her pocket because she left the rest of her money in their house. Then the woman thanked her and left.  So when it was her time to pay, she was surprised to see her pocket empty and remembered that she left the rest of her money in their house. All she had that time was a twenty peso bill. So the driver witnessing the situation considered it.
This funny experienced of our principal amazed me. I was wrong of thinking those ugly things about her. She was really strict, but when I see her true self I came into understanding her strictness in school. I realized that the reason behind this strictness was her love for the students. She want to provide them a better education that is why she was so strict.
A person don't need to sacrifice his life to be a hero. Each of us can be a hero in our own way. We can be hero for someone out there. All we need is a a good heart that is willing to give to others and our principal have that kind of heart making her a hero for me.
